Lauren and her dad, Timothy, shared their experience in an interview. They did not give a mark or grade change.

STUDENT SUCCESS STORY

Lauren’s P4 Science story

Primary 4 · Science

From tuning out of online lessons to taking part in Science class.

Lauren, now in Primary 4, speaks up more during her online Science tuition lessons at Ottodot, says her dad, Timothy. That is a change from an earlier online programme, where he sometimes found the lesson volume turned down and worksheets left unfinished. Lauren says the teacher calls on her to answer. Timothy likes that she has room to participate in a smaller class and looks forward to the games.

01 / THE STARTING POINT

What felt difficult

Timothy wanted Lauren to enjoy learning. In her previous online programme, she sometimes turned down the volume and left the worksheets alone. He could see she needed a lesson that drew her into the conversation, especially because she was quiet in a larger group.

Science answers were another concern. Lauren could have an idea in mind but struggle to put it in the words a school question asked for. Timothy wanted her to feel comfortable trying an answer and asking when she was unsure.

02 / THE LEARNING JOURNEY

Finding a way forward

In the trial, Lauren liked how the teacher spoke with students and called on them to answer. In a smaller class, she had more chances to join in.

Lauren also looked forward to the games. When one level proved difficult, she kept trying to get through it. Timothy liked seeing that persistence. The class was online, so Lauren could join from home, where she felt at ease.

03 / THE PROGRESS

What changed along the way

Lauren calls the lessons interactive. Timothy says she answers more confidently now, and he sees her taking part instead of drifting away from the class. For him, it matters that she is willing to learn and try again.
