Yixin enjoyed Science, but putting her ideas into written answers was difficult. Her mum, Kris, wanted to protect that interest while helping her build confidence. With interactive lessons, games and hands-on activities, Yixin now stays engaged through class and can explain how to structure a Science answer.

What felt difficult
As Science moved beyond multiple-choice questions, Yixin found it harder to spell and express her ideas in writing. Kris wanted support that would help her daughter tackle open-ended questions without losing her existing interest in Science. She also wondered whether an online lesson could hold Yixin’s attention.

Finding a way forward
Ottodot combined questions and answers with colourful lesson materials, learning games and practical activities. Yixin describes searching her home for magnetic objects like a treasure hunt. She also learned to build an answer with a claim, evidence and reasoning, and could explain why each part mattered. Kris appreciated how the teacher’s questions and encouragement kept the children involved.

What changed along the way
Kris noticed that Yixin wanted to answer questions and stayed for the whole lesson, even asking visiting cousins to wait until class was finished. She was surprised to hear Yixin explain the claim, evidence and reasoning approach. Yixin says Science feels fun and interesting, and enthusiastically asks for more revision questions. Kris also reports that Yixin completed her online Science assessment with time left to review her answers; spelling and written responses remain areas she is working on.
“Her attention span is very short, but for the Ottodot class she sits throughout the whole class. … I think it’s the interaction with the teacher. I’m surprised by the way the teacher delivered it, even though it’s online—his tone and the way he questions the kids.”
