STUDENT SUCCESS STORY
Alicia’s P5 Science story
Primary 5 · Science
Alicia improved by 20 marks and grew more confident answering Science questions.
Alicia, now in Primary 5, improved her Science result by 20 marks and passed an assessment after an earlier failure. Science open-ended questions once scared her because she did not know how to begin. Learning Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) gave her steps to follow, and she says she can answer with more confidence now. She stays focused through class and remains for the games afterwards.
01 / THE STARTING POINT
What felt difficult
Alicia used to look at an open-ended Science question and worry that she would not know how to explain her answer. The longer the questions became, the harder it felt to get started.
Before Ottodot, Alicia tried private tuition and worked through question after question. Without a clear structure, more worksheets did little to help her decide what to write.
02 / THE LEARNING JOURNEY
Finding a way forward
Alicia learned to use CER in her Science answers. She starts with a claim, finds evidence in the question and explains why that evidence supports her answer. She says the steps help her break a question down instead of trying to solve everything at once.
Alicia stayed with the live lesson and then remained for the games. She says the games helped her remember Science ideas. During an exam, she recalled a question about the respiratory system from a game and used it to answer a question on her paper.
03 / THE PROGRESS
What changed along the way
Alicia says she is more confident with open-ended questions now. CER gives her a place to start, while the class and games give her chances to practise the Science behind her answers. She passed an assessment after an earlier failure, and her Science result improved by 20 marks.
